The much reviled SCO Group was took a serious hit Friday in its ongoing fight against what it asserts to be violations of its Unix intellectual property rights when a German court slapped a preliminary injunction against it.

According to Joe Eckert, spokesman for SuSE Linux A.G., the court instructed SCO to cease making claims that the Linux operating system was an illegal derivative of Unix. "If SCO ignores the court's order, it faces a fine of up to 250,000 euro," he said. Read More...


Armored Car Guard Admits Taking $400,000

From the "you've got to be kidding me" files. Thirty-two-year-old Perry Vedder of Philadelphia, an armored car company guard, has admitted to boosting more than $400,000. His confession came after his superiors questioned him about the pretty new sports car he drove to work just days after the theft occurred. Read More...

Dutch "coffee shops" about to see business go up in smoke.

Say it ain't so. Dutch officials have just finished drafting a measure which will ban smoking in their over 800 cannabis cafes. While pot is technically illegal in the Netherlands, it is tolerated and figures as a major tourist draw. The ironic legislation is aimed at protecting workers from second hand toking, er, smoking. Ottawa to ease penalties for pot use

In a move to deal with the root cause of drug abuse, Ottawa this week proposed de-criminalizing simple possession of marijuana while stiffening the penalties imposed against growers and dealers. The bill, which is the watered down result of what started out as an attempt by some to legalize weed, of course only served to piss off everyone from cops to stoners to opposition politicians.
